About Dyslexia Therapy of North Alabama

Where Passion Meets Education

At Dyslexia Therapy of North Alabama, we believe in building a community of lifelong learners. Our motto, “Where Passion Meets Education,” captures our unwavering commitment to transforming personal experiences into impactful learning solutions for both children and adults.

Our Story & Founder

Founded by Claire Waldrop, whose own journey with dyslexia began in ninth grade, DTNA was born out of both personal struggle and purpose. Following the 2013 diagnosis of her eldest child—and later all three of her children—Claire’s greatest challenge evolved into a powerful passion for educational transformation.

Our Mission & Approach

  • Eradicating Illiteracy in North Alabama: Our mission centers on expanding literacy through expert, compassionate instruction and educator training.

  • Accredited Excellence: As an IMSLEC-accredited provider, we ensure our methods meet the highest standards for structured literacy.

  • Research-Based, Orton‑Gillingham–Evolved Curriculum: We deliver instruction rooted in the multisensory, structured Orton‑Gillingham approach—incorporating auditory, visual, and kinesthetic modalities. Built on alphabetic principles, our curriculum is expressly designed to teach reading, spelling, and writing to those with dyslexia.

  • Personalized Learning Environments: We offer both one-on-one and small-group instruction, adaptable to public or private settings to meet each learner’s unique needs.

What Sets Our Therapy Apart

Education is more than mere tutoring—it’s thoughtfully tailored therapy. Here’s how we stand out:

  • Highly Trained Professionals: Therapists typically complete over 200 classroom hours and 700 clinical hours.

  • Neuro-Literacy Focus: Therapy aims to develop new neurological pathways—supporting lasting reading improvements. Consistent, Intensive Sessions: We generally see students 3–4 times a week for 50-minute sessions to ensure meaningful progress.

Training Tomorrow’s Educators

Dyslexia Therapy of North Alabama is proud to offer training opportunities for those aspiring to become Certified Academic Language Therapists (CALT). We’re committed to expanding access to skilled professionals who can deliver proven remediation for dyslexia and related language-based disorders.
